Jill Greenberg - The Grinch who stole Photography

By now, some of you have read about the photographer Jill Greenberg, a now even more controversial photographer for her recent images of John McCain in the Atlantic. As a creative professional myself, there is a reason why conservatives call artist liberal, it’s because we are and Jill proved it. But how she did it is where I draw the line. She was a photographer who was hired to take professional photographs, not do “art”, she now opened the doors for scrutiny for the rest of us and our own political views. Will I have to tell a potential client my political views before they will take me on an assignment?

Disclaimer: I am a democrat

There is no excuse for what she did working as a professional. Sure, she’s an artist in general - but I feel art as an expression can be motivated in any way the artist so sees fit - but as someone hired for a specific task and to place that employer at risk for the sole benefit of your own political views is simply unacceptable. There are arguments on what she was asked to do by the Atlantic and how she interpreted them and ultimately the Atlantic chose to use the pics she created. acheter cialis

The real issue for me though is not only her lack of professionalism on an assignment, but her history of tricks and gimmicks for her “craft”. The image shown here of the child crying was part of a series used for The End Times, “The pieces were titled to reflect Greenberg’s frustration with both the Bush administration and Christian Fundamentalism in the United States.” How she created them is another story: by offering the children candy and suddenly taking it away. I myself will do what it takes to get a photo, but only so far and withing some moral bounds. I can’t even imagine anyone wanting to make kids cry solely to convey their own thoughts and views on the world….and for art. That’s just downright mean lady.
